How did you come up with the idea for Ploom?
        About Us

Is Ploom a good way to quit smoking cigarettes?
Ploom has not been assessed as a smoking cessation device and is not marketed or sold as such.

         Where does the smoke go?
Ploom emits a vapor that disperses into the air within seconds, much like the vapor of a humidifier. Please Ploom kindly–while it might be ok to Ploom in a restaurant, you should be respectful to the patrons sitting near you as they might not want to smell your Blue Tea while eating their Roasted-Almond Ricotta Pesto with Olives.

Can I ploom in places where smoking is prohibited?
Usually yes, depending on local laws and ordinances. We ask ploomers to always be considerate, and explain to others how Ploom works before using in public places.

Is Ploom compliant with California labor code Section 6404.5?
Yes, since Ploom does not emit smoke, its indoor use is compliant with California State law.

Is Ploom the same / different from e-cigs?
Ploom is in a separate category from both cigarettes and e-cigs. Ploom is a pipe tobacco product based upon hookah or shisha, whose primary ingredient is cured Virginia tobacco leaves. Ploom pods are hand-crafted in our US micro-factory. Ploom creates a vapor through gentle heating of the tobacco, using a patent-pending technology invented at Stanford by Adam and James.

         Is Ploom FDA approved?
The Family Smoking Prevention bill (HR 1256) prohibits any tobacco product from designating itself as "FDA approved."  The FDA does not condone the act of consuming tobacco.

         Is Ploom for all ages?
Ploom is exclusively for adults.  If you find any evidence of a retailer who is selling or marketing Ploom to minors, please let us know immediately. We have a zero-tolerance policy on this issue.

         What is in your vapor?
The vapor has been extensively tested in the laboratory. Consistent with FDA guidelines, we do not at this time comment on its composition. We can say that Ploom vapor is not smoke, because it is created by gentle heating (vaporization) rather than combustion.

I can't get my Ploom to start? What am I doing wrong?
Assuming your Ploom has not been damaged, there are a couple of things that you can do to get your Ploom to turn on:

  1. Make sure your hand is not touching the vented area around the oven - this may prevent the Ploom from turning on.
  2. Push the starter button in slowly and listen for the butane, then push all the way to start it.
  3. You don't have any butane in your Model One. Pick up a can of quality butane at almost any convenience store and fill it up.
  4. You may actually be turning your Ploom on and not know it. Try turning it on again and wait a few seconds, you should see the vent area glow slightly. You may also notice a little condensation on the plastic near the vents.
  5. You may have left the model One in the ON position and it used all of it's fuel.  Refill the model One and if it still does not want to start, wait a couple of minutes.

If you continue to have trouble after taking these steps please contact customer service

How do I turn my Ploom off?
Turn your model One off by pressing the "off" button at the end of the device

Does the model One use batteries?
No, the model One catalyzes butane to generate heat. No batteries required.

Can I put anything I like into the Ploom vaporization oven?
No. We advise not putting anything other than the Ploom pods in your Ploom as the device was not designed to handle any raw tobacco or other items. We can not stand by our product warranty if we find evidence of non-pod use with the device.

Are there any upkeep issues for my Ploom and if so what are they and how are they resolved?
The Ploom mouthpiece should be cleaned periodically by placing the mouthpiece in a dish of warm water with soap. Some tobacco build up occurs in the mouthpiece and this is the best way to keep it clean and optimize its performance. You can also clear any tobacco in the mouthpiece by blowing forcefully through the open section at the tip of the mouthpiece while the tip is removed from the body.

I'm having trouble filling my model One with butane.
Sometimes pressure in the model One can make filling difficult. Make sure to watch the getting started video at the top of this page to understand how the refueling process should work. Make sure that your model One is pointed down so that gravity is helping you. You may need to press and hold the butane canister against the fill nozzle a few times. Hold the model One to a light source and make sure butane is filling up.

If you continue to have trouble you may want to release some of the pressure from your model One immediately before fueling. Point the fill valve away from you and depress it with a blunt object like a paperclip. Some butane should escape, and now you should be able to fill your model One easily.

         My modelOne shocked me.
The modelOne uses a piezo-electric ignition system to start the catlayzation process. If you hold your fingers over the exhaust vents while turning on your modelOne it's possible to receive a small electrical shock. This won't hurt you, but it may be surprising. Don't cover the exhaust vents during ignition and this won't happen.

What are the black particles in my modelOne?
The modelOne uses activated carbon particles to capture impurities in butane before they reach critical components.

Why are the Ploom Pods so small?
Vaporization is an extremely efficient way to extract the active elements and flavor in Ploom pods, thus we don't need to pack a ton of tobacco or other ingredients inside.

How long does a Ploom Pod last?
A Ploom Pod usually lasts from five to ten minutes, but like chewing gum it is up to the you to determine when the flavor is gone. There is no signal or "end" when using your Ploom Pods.

I taste some sweetness on my lips and tongue after plooming. What is this?
Similar to hookah or shisha, Pods contain the food additives propylene glycol and glycerin to help form a lavish vapor. A small amount may cool and condense in the tip of your mouthpiece. These ingredients have a slightly sweet taste.

Why is it so important that you source your pod ingredients from trusted domestic suppliers?
It provides a safeguard against lower grade ingredients. Low grade propylene glycol can include undesirable impurities such as diethylene glycol. We take the quality of our products very seriously.
